Eric Himan sings my request…

I’ll admit I feel a BIT bad about asking for this. Borderline is a song I’ve liked since I was a teenager and it was one of the hardest records to find. I think even back in the late 80s I paid $50 for a copy of that single. The Catch was a one-single wonder. Comprised of Annie Lennox, Dave Stewart and Peet Coombs, they added two other members the year later and re-named themselves The Tourists and four years after that, whittled down to just Dave and Annie and re-named themselves The Eurythmics.

Anyway… When Eric (who is a friend of mine IRL) did his kickstarter for his new album I made a donation and asked if he’d cover it. It’s maybe a TAD out of his range.

Meh.

here’s the original.

Today is brought to you by the letter “E.”

image

A couple weeks ago I decided I was going to listen to every album in my collection in (roughly) alphabetical order. That meant starting with my voluminous AC/DC collection. Last week I had a whole day of B-52’s and Kate Bush. Yesterday I finally made it though my Duran Duran records.

That means today is brought to you by the letter E and we’re starting with one of my favorite records from when I was 5, “Having Fun with Ernie and Bert.” Seriously, this is one of the cutest records you can imagine. It’s premise is a house party that Ernie and Bert are throwing for their friends so all your 70s favorites are there.. Big Bird, Grover, Oscar, Prairie Dawn and Sweetums. The inside of the jacket has a map for one of the stories that you need to follow, transparent colour wheels for a song about mixing colours. It also ends with their classic “Pick up and clean up and tidy the floor.”

No, Elmo wasn’t invited.

MY “Album Of The Year” for 2014

I generally don’t pay much attention to award shows. Who wins and who doesn’t never matters to me and few albums that I really enjoy will ever get nominated for anything.

So instead of getting upset about whether the dull, repetitive Beck album should have won over the equally dull, repetitive Beyonce record should have won… I’ll post this song from Lion by Peter Murphy. THIS is my album of the year for 2014.

Frozen/Devin Mashup. Kind of.

One of my favorite albums from last year was actually two separate albums. Devin Townsend’s Z2 album has two parts. The first two LPs are a more etherial release from his band The Devin Townsend Project called “Sky Blue” and the second two LPs are a rock opera called “Dark Matters” that stars his… alien bad guy Ziltoid and tells a sort of Flash Gordon type story.

Here’s a rather cute video edited together for the song War Princess using clips from the children’s movie Frozen.

Karyn Crisis is an enigmatic figure. She sang on a single¬†Ephel Duath album and then disappeared for nearly 9 years. She’s now back with this stunning new music. Haunting and beautiful.

FKA Twigs’ Tonight Show performance is one of the most amazing things you’ll see all year.

I don’t even need to say much about this. Her debut album “LP1” is out although I have no idea what it sounds like. All I know is this performance last night is one of the most mesmerizing things I’ve see since Kate Bush. And that’s one of the best compliments I can give any artist.
